International Development
International Development, CSOs & Private Actors
This module explains international development as a contested space where power, money, and norms move—and teaches how caste and minority struggles must be placed clearly within SDGs, Human Rights Council processes, and ILO conventions (equality at work, forced/bonded labour, freedom of association). It maps how claims travel through CERD (caste as descent-based discrimination), Special Procedures, UPR, development bank safeguards, and climate-fund grievance routes, and how these interact with donors, corporate ESG, and philanthropy. It also teaches the sector’s political economy and recurring tensions (timelines vs community pace, compliance-heavy M&E vs participatory learning, token inclusion vs shared governance), and builds practical skills on due diligence and remedy, coalition-building “hygiene,” and fundraising as both craft and politics—plus precise private-sector leverage and safeguards for tech/platform economies and climate-finance interfaces, with ethics and safety treated as non-negotiable.
